Where to find craft beer in the Washington, DC metropolitan area
…anything I write that might not be true anymore/needs to be updated, feel free to let me know, most of my tidbits are based off my experience drinking at various bars and talking to cool people who work there; but most of them I don’t visit as frequently as others 🙂
BARS/RESTAURANTS
Glover Park
- Bourbon – 2348 wisconsin ave nw
Although the focus is obviously on bourbon, they usually have some great gems on draft in addition to a great bottle selection. So order a nice glass of bourbon alongside a pint of beer. And whenever I’m working and not too busy… feel free to shoot me beer questions!
- Breadsoda – 2233 wisconsin ave nw
As far as I know this is one of the few places I know to play pool or shuffleboard on some nice looking tables while enjoying a beer from their offerings of some very well selection drafts and bottles. Last time I stopped by I discovered they had the Oskar Blues Gubna in a can… delicious!!!
- Chef Geoff’s – 3201 new mexico ave nw
In the mood for a cheap burger and a super mug (33.8oz) of a nice session beer, stop by this spot, nestled away up by American University, during their happy hour M-F 3-7pm and become a burgerhead. There’s always some classic to enjoy on draft along with with a bottle selection that can surprise you with some great artisanal beers at good prices.
- Two Amy’s – 3715 macomb nw
Authentic Neapolitan pizza, rare Italian beers, and always a decent selection of microbrew/handcrafted beers on tap makes Two Amy’s a don’t miss for a satisfying lunch or dinner.
Dupont Circle
- The Big Hunt – 1345 connecticut ave nw
With 31 beers on tap, this is one of my favorite places to grab a delicious microbrew or craft beer import after work and have the option to chill on the patio, play some buck hunter, or throw some money in their amazing jukebox.
- Pizzeria Paradiso – 2003 p st nw
Birreria Paradiso – Bottles: Around 100, Draft: 16, Pizza: Awesome. What more can you ask for? Plus they are one of the few places in Washington, DC to offer a traditional British Cask ale.
Adams Morgan
- Asylum – 2471 18th st nw
I’ve been going to this bar since I first came to DC. Back in my vegetarian days this was the place I bike to often from gtown to grab a delicious vegan brunch on the weekends. After I started getting into beer, I realized they offered a solid selection of draft beers including Leffe Bruin; always a classic when craving a sweet and refreshing belgian beer!
- Bedrock Billiards – 1841 columbia rd nw
Another one of my old stomping grounds when I lived closer to the neighborhood. They’ll surprise you with a great selection of import and craft beer, both in the bottle and on tap. A good place to find a decent English or German beer while enjoying a game of pool or shuffle board!!!
- Black Squirrel – 2427 18th st nw
A very cute little spot in Adams Morgan where you can find a wide array of crucial craft beer from bottle to draft. Hit them up on Tuesday nights to catch 1/2 priced appetizers that are so worth trying! Plus, in the near future they’ll be featuring their very own hand crafted beers…
- Bourbon – 2321 18th st nw
This location, like the one the Glover Park, also offers a wonderful selection of american microbrews in the bottle and on draft to follow up their amazing selection of bourbon.
- Reef – 2446 18th st nw
Not only is it old friends with Allagash Brewing and sells their White Ale consistently, the Reef always stays on top of their draft selection by offering great new microbrews to it’s patrons. So take a night to go check out the interesting decor and enjoy a pint!
Columbia Heights
- Meridian Pint – 3400 11th st nw
A fresh existence in a continually blossoming part of town. With 25 beers on tap and a dedication to bringing the neighborhood good craft beer, you can’t go wrong. I’m excited to see what new and exciting beers the Pint is going to offer us throughout the summer! And they offer pool and shuffleboard in the downstairs portion… Beer + Games = Good Times.
- Red Derby – 3718 14th st nw
Macrobrew beer in a CAN, Microbrew beer in a CAN, Import beer… in a CAN!!! What a great idea for a bar; to carry every available beer in a can that is available to DC. Trust me, there are a lot more than you think… plus, natty bo is only $2. I mean if your gonna drink macrobrew… drink local!
more to come
… trust me. I’m nowhere near done yet! Let me know if you want in, i’ll come grab a drink at your bar!
